However, the victorious AEUG also suffered devastating losses, leaving the Earth Sphere in chaos. Seizing this opportunity, Axis, having sustained minimal damage in the conflict, declared itself "Neo Zeon." In U.C. 0088, they deployed their preserved military might to begin their conquest of the Earth Sphere. Aboard the damaged Argama, which has docked at the Side 1 colony of Shangri-La, a junk dealer's apprentice named Judau Ashta and his friends plan to steal a mobile suit. At the same time, a Neo Zeon ship arrives at Shangri-La and opens fire on the Argama. Caught in the battle, Judau is persuaded by his sister Leina to help the Argama, and his four friends follow suit.
